Oxbow Design Build Cooperative
Founder, Co-Owner, and Manager
Carl is a founder, co-owner, and manager at Oxbow Design Build Cooperative. In addition to project management, he is responsible for human resources, administrative systems development, and finances. First incorporated as an LLC in 2015, the founders of Oxbow Design Build had an early interest in co-operatives. Oxbow became a worker co-op in 2019, following a two-year conversion process supported by the Valley Alliance of Worker Cooperatives (VAWC).

Carl joined the VAWC board of directors this year, where he looks forward to providing support services to VAWC members and other area co-ops. He has a particular interest in supporting the conversion of traditionally structured companies in the construction industry into worker co-ops. Following ten years working as a carpenter and foreman in Massachusetts and New York City, Carl's concerns about disempowered workforces and consolidation of wealth led him to pursue an alternative business model that prioritizes a safe work environment, an equitable economy, and inclusive community-focused real estate development.

Carl currently serves on his city's Business Reopening Taskforce, focused on the safety and economic support of businesses and public services that are dealing with the impacts of COVID-19. Since March, Carl and Oxbow have been working with community partners to manufacture and donate Personal Protective Equipment to local hospitals, health centers, food security organizations, and all essential workers.

Carl maintains a Construction Supervisor License in Massachusetts. He currently lives on the pond in Easthampton with his fiancée and two cats.
