D. Maurice "Don" Kreis

D. Maurice "Don" Kreis is an attorney who has been New Hampshire's Consumer Advocate, representing the interests of the state's residential utility customers, since 2016. Now in his second term, he is the first person to have been nominated to the post by governors of both major political parties. Don has previously served as general counsel of the New Hampshire Public Utilities Commission, as a hearing officer with the Vermont Public Utility Commission, and as associate director of the Institute for Energy and the Environment at Vermont Law School. A former journalist, Don writes a regular column about his work for the nonprofit news organization InDepthNH.org. He also chairs the board of Trustees of We Own It, a national nonprofit that works to empower members of rural electric cooperatives, nonprofits, and other co-ops.
